Leo Power Everest Marathon Dispatch

May 29, 2011 – Photo Finish – Race Day Recap

A Message from Wally on Race Day morning:

At exactly 7:00 AM Leo, Jheta and the other runners in this year’s Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon began their run from Everest Base Camp. The weather was quite good this morning - mostly clear skies with a few clouds overhead.

Word went down valley quickly that the race had begun, Nuru called Min, who was waiting in Pangboche with Red Bull and snacks for Leo; then Min called us here at the race end in Namche.

Leo and Jheta crossed the finish line together, looking strong. We watched them running full stride around the last corner into Namche despite their long run all the way from Everest Base Camp. This has been an exciting day. Leo, the guy with Race Bib # 50, finished his exhilarating and rewarding run through the Himalayas. Congratulations!

#63 Jheta Rai and # 50 Leo Power, a happy team.
