Bolivia Expedition Dispatch

June 18-19, 2010 – Summit Day!

This is Leila Silveira reporting from Bolivia. On the 18th the team had another climbing practice session. They went to Tarija glacier to practice glacier climbing techniques and self arrest. Then they went back to camp for an early dinner.

At 3:30am on the 19th the team started the climb of Pequeno Alpamayo. It was a long day but by 11:45am Terri, Sam, Heiko, Juancho, Osvaldo and Sergio reached the summit. Great team work.

Oswaldo called me from the summit to report that they all really enjoyed the climb and are very proud of their success. Tim decided last night not to join the team, but he was doing fine resting at base camp with our cook Simon and his assistant Maria.

By 4:30 pm they were all back at base camp.

Congratulations everyone!!!!
