April 13, 2009 – Next Stop, Kathmandu!
The airstrip at Lukla
Ang Temba has continued to call in each day. He told us that our team, Edouard, Jim, Janet, Kit and Bob and all their Sherpa staff went from Namche down to the village of Phakding on the banks of the Dudh Kosi River on Sunday. At Phakding the team slept in very cozy lodge rooms with the rushing milk green glacial waters of the river right outside their rooms.

Today Monday, April 13th they have arrived back at Lukla, where they are staying in a lodge right by the airstrip. Tonight they will have a farewell dinner and party with their Sherpa staff, who has been their constant companions these past 16 days along the trail to Everest Base Camp.
Temba told us the group is confirmed on the first flight to Kathmandu Tuesday morning. We wish them good luck for perfect weather in the morning so they will be whisked away to the city. Shital Sharma and the rest of our Kathmandu staff will be waiting for them early at the airport in Kathmandu. If you call any of our heroes by telephone at the Yak and Yeti Hotel to congratulate them and there is no answer in the room do not be alarmed, this only means the hot water has not run out and the showers are still going!
