Explore the Wonders of Tibet with Berg Adventures – Trip Itinerary

Day 1 & 2 – International Flight to Kathmandu

  • Overnight Kathmandu

Day 3 – Arrive Kathmandu. Transfer to Yak and Yeti Hotel with time to relax and sightsee.

Day 4 – Go with Berg Adventures Staff to apply for Tibetan Visa. You will also have time to sightsee in Kathmandu’s colorful streets and markets.

Day 5 – Flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu. Your guide will greet you at the airport and take you to one of Lhasa’s 5-star hotels. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the beautiful and modern city of Lhasa at 11,795ft/3,595m, and soak in all of the vibrant colors and fantastic scenery it has to offer.

Day 6 & 7 – Sightseeing in Lhasa. You will visit the Jokang which is the most revered religious structure in Tibet. But before entering, you will tour around the old Tibetan part of town and follow the Barkhor, Lhasa’s most interesting kora (pilgrimage circuit). The striking contrast between spiritual reverence and pushy market economics never fails to intrigue. Once inside, you will find the beautiful adorned chapels of the Jokang, but the real treat is taking a visit up to the roof for the views and maybe even a cup of tea. You will also visit the Sera Monastery, one of Tibet’s largest. Also on the list of places you will visit are the former palaces of the Dalai Lama, the Norbulingka and the grand Potala Palace.

  • Overnight Lhasa

Day 8 – Today you will start your trip down the “Friendship Highway” which is the name of the road between Lhasa and Kathmandu. Your driver and guide will take you over three mountain passes including one at 16,405ft/5,000m. In the afternoon, you will have time to stretch your legs and sightsee in Gyantse.

Day 9 – In contrast to the desert-like terrain of yesterday’s drive, today you travel along the lush valley of the Nyang Chu River to the city of Shigatze. You will arrive mid-morning and have plenty of time to relax and tour this historic city. You may choose to tour the Tashiluhunpo Monastery, established in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama, for a unique historic and cultural experience.

Day 10 – Your destination today will be Shegar. On route, you will drive through three more high passes, including Gyatso La Pass at 17,218ft/5,248m. The mountains and high planes that make up the landscape are incredibly vast to the point of being other-worldly. If you feel like taking in some culture in the afternoon, you can visit the ruins of the Shegar Dzong (Crystal Fort) which once housed the capital of the Tingri region. The mountain views from the fort are fantastic.

  • Overnight Shegar

Day 11 – Chomolungma (Everest) Nature Preserve with the hopes of getting in some great views of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu. We will travel the bumpy road to Everest Base Camp North to see how expedition climbers live.

  • Overnight Old Tingri

Day 12 – Today we will return to Nepal and spend the evening at the comfortable and familiar Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Overnight Kathmandu

Day 13 – BAI Trip Ends. International Flight Home

Day 14 – Return to North America.
