Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
October 31, 2019 – We Made it to Lukla! (And on to Kathmandu…)
After spending one more night at Highland Sherpa Resort in Pangboche after we went to Ama Dablam Base Camp, it was time to say farewell to Yangzee. After Pangboche we visited the new Community Center in the village of Phortse. This building was officially opened this past June. It is a beautiful building and an amazing facility. The building, which includes a great climbing wall, was built by the Alex Lowe Charitable Fund through donations to the Khumbu Climbing School.
As the team descended they greeting many friends along the way, including Peter Hillary, who they ran into at Khumjung and of course, Mingma Sherpa, who runs Panorama Lodge in Namche.
Going home from the Khumbu is always an adventure! Adriana is still extremely strong and trekking great every day, but the weather will be the weather we have to be patient and take our luck where we find it. Many trekkers were backed up in Lukla waiting for flights of any sort they get. We could not get on a helicopter like on the way in, but we did get a flight to a smaller airstrip that has access to a road to Kathmandu. So after a long day of waiting and then travelling Adriana got back to the Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu about 8:00 PM.
Congratulations, Adriana! Good Job! Enjoy the bubble baths and some great meals in Kathmandu.
