April 23, 2017 – We Made it to Pangboche!
Temba called from his lodge at Pangboche Sunday evening. Chris and Mark have made it to the favorite spot of most Berg Adventures trekkers in the Everest region: Ang Temba and Yangzing’s Highland Sherpa Resort in the village of Pangboche at 13,100 feet above sea level.
The weather has been cloudy for most of this trip so far – beautiful, but the views of the highest mountains have been elusive. Today’s walk from Khumjung took the team past the famous Tengboche Monastery, but clouds hung all around during the walk.
At the bridge just below Pangboche, the guys ran into an old friend of Berg Adventures - Jamling Norgay, son of Tenzing Norgay and author of Touching My Father’s Soul. By 3:00 PM they had arrived at the lodge and were welcomed by Yangzing with steaming cups of her hot mint tea.
Supper was Yak Steaks and fresh salad, made with greens grown at Temba and Yangzing greenhouse right there at the lodge!
The “Sky Lounge” at Temba and Yangzing’s lodge is one of the most beautiful places in the world to have a dinner; it was really a special evening. The sky cleared and for the first time the trip Mark and Chris saw Everest, Ama Dablam and the other big peaks right out the window!
The plan tomorrow is to visit Ama Dablam base camp and return to Highland Sherpa Resort for a second night. Temba reports that the guys are feeling great and that they are very strong, no problems with acclimatization. We look forward to hearing more about their adventures and the people they meet along the way as they continue.
