Island Peak Expedition Dispatch
April 22, 2017 – Leaving Namche Bazaar
Today we left Namche around 9am and hiked to Khunde to about 13,000ft/3,800m where we visited the Hillary memorial. Beautiful views of the Thami valley and Khumjung from our view point.
Once we arrived in Khunde, we went to the Khunde monastery which was damaged by an earthquake on 2015. Berg Adventures commitment has played a big part on helping to acquire funding for the temple to be rebuilt. The team were treated to lunch at Ang Temba’s brother-in-law’s home.
Then they hiked to the ancient Khumjung Monastery and viewed the “The Yeti Skull” that is kept under lock and key. Everyone is doing great and they were really quite excited to be buying local artist’s paintings called Tanka.
