Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
April 23, 2016 – Kylie Garvin Reports in From Thame
Today, April 23 is Saturday, Market Day in Namche. Kylie, Garv and he team stopped by the Namche Market early in the morning before they began walking to Thame.
The report below which Kylie sent after they arrived in Thame says it all.
Kylie here! I'm writing you from Thame, a great little village we reached after a relatively gradual trek with amazing views of the Himalayan rivers, mountain ranges and colorful flowers. Before departing on my trip to Nepal to climb to Everest Base Camp, I told myself not to set any expectations for the trip. While I mostly remained true to that notion, any expectations I COULD have had were immediately surpassed. Whether it be the sincerity and genuine kindness of the Nepalese people, or the vastness of the Himalayan mountain ranges that make you feel wonderfully insignificant, my mind continues to be blown.
Since arriving to the Khumbu, our days have been filled with delicious teas, scenic hikes and good company. We trekked from Lukla to Phakding, an easy way to warm up the muscles for what is to come. From Phakding, we hiked through quite a bit of ups and downs to reach Namche. Namche has been my favorite so far! A colorful and vibrant town on the hillside, we spent two days there enjoying the views. I am excited for the adventure to come as we continue to move higher up the mountain range.
I will leave you all with a little food for thought. On the trails, you end up having a lot of time with your own mind. I came to a humbling realization today I figure I will share. The mountains do not care who you are, how much money you make, where you have gone, or where you are going. Everyone, for all intents and purposes, is the same and treated equally which is extremely grounding and provides a fresh perspective. Until next time... Namaste!
