Elbrus Expedition Dispatch

July 2, 2014 – We Are in the Mountains Now!

It is July 2nd and I am calling you from an elevation of 3,400m in the Caucasus Mountains. It is a really beautiful day, very sunny, some clouds are out. We have had good views of the twin summits of Mount Elbrus as we hiked today. We went this morning, after quite a late breakfast because we had such a late arrival last night, to the Cheget Ski area. We took two chairlift rides, and were off the chairlift at about 11:30 am. This was interestingly just about 24 hours after we had all been sitting in an Irish Pub in the departure area of the airport back in Moscow, eating cheeseburgers and drinking beer and diet coke before we got on our flight down to the Caucasus. So much has changed in those 24 hours. All of it has been good! We feel privileged to have had such a great travel experience so far in Russia.

We have been trying to catch you up with all the wonderful things that were done in Moscow and St. Petersburg and it has been quite a challenge but I think you have got the gist of our great times there.

Now it’s great to be with our family, our dear friends in the Caucasus Mountains , Karina, both Vladimirs, Mariana at the hotel and our friends who were warmly waiting for us. We are glad to be back in a region that is very special to Berg Adventures.

We will keep you posted as we continue our familiarity with the area, acclimatization, viewing the spectacular scenery and getting ready to climb high on Mount Elbrus. There will be great adventures and stories to come so please stay tuned!
