July 5, 2013 – Climbing Into the Clouds Above Cheget
Today we used two chairlifts at the Cheget Ski Area to access higher terrain for our acclimatization. Gordon made the comment that the chairlifts that we rode reminding him of the skiing he did growing up. Very simple indeed. But as you will see from the photos the scenery is unmatched. I can think of no more beautiful place in the world to go for an acclimatization hike. We reached 3450 meters, and then descended down to the top chair for our knee-saving rides down.
We started from the Cheget Base, at 2200 meters.

Today was Margaret's first time ever to ride a chairlift; she looked to be loving it!

Starting up the trail above the lifts, elevation 3050 meters
As we climbed higher we were enveloped in mist.
Higher still, it got clear again, Margaret was seen in her ever present "buff"
Spectacular scenery
We looked south into Georgia, wild inviting terrain.

We were impressed when Vladimir K told us about climbing this face - and also skiing it with his brother in the 1990's
At our high point, 4450 meters
After descending to Cheget we enjoyed barbeque local Caucasus style with lamb and local cheese bread.
