October 17, 2012 – Recap from Khumjung to Pangboche: Part II

After we left the school we began what many consider to be the most beautiful mountain walk in the world. Ama Dablam was before us the entire way.

We saw a herd of Thar, wild Himalayan goats, including this large male.

About 1pm we arrived at the world famous Tengboche Monastery.

Tengboche is a spectacular location, famous for its views of Everest.

The clouds were coming and going all day, be we had good views of Lhotse, on the right, and Everest, on the left.

There is beauty in every direction from Tengboche. This is looking toward the Gokyo Valley.

Phuri and his cook staff prepared lunch for us, which we enjoyed inside a lodge near the monastery.

Left: After lunch we hit the trail again. This was one of our longest days trekking. Sharon and Jim were still looking great after seven hours of hiking. Koncha’s brother Jeyta brought Ang Temba’s horse, Rana, out to meet the group on the trail below Pangboche for pleasure.

Tina decided to join in the excitement and ride “Rana” into Pangboche.

Temba’s wife Yangzing has been running the lodge since early September. It was great to see her again and to be back at “Highland Sherpa Resort.”
