Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

October 19, 2011 – Trek and Expedition Photo Recap from Pheriche: Part I

Today is our rest acclimatization day in Pheriche, elevation 13,780ft/4,200 meters. The rooms are spacious and comfortable at our lodge. This morning we had the luxury of waking up in the same room that we knew we would be going to sleep in tonight. After the staff brought us our wake up bed tea and coffee at 6:30 it was nice knowing that all we had to do was walk into the dining room for breakfast – no packing today.

Jenny, Ryan, Bruce, Larry, Denio, Raquel left after breakfast to walk up the ridge above town for views of Makalu, the 5th highest mountain in the world. Bob, Robert and I are sitting in the lodge sunroom right now, with beautiful views outside.

The photos here will give a feel for our past days on the trail. The beauty of the mountains around us, the peace imparted by the daily lives of the Sherpa people and the companionship of one another – we are a very compatible team are making each of these days rich and memorable – we are acquiring memories for a lifetime!

There are prayer wheels all along the trail, big ones and small ones. They all spin; here a lama holds a small child as he sends the prayer wheel on endless clockwise cycles.
