August 1, 2010 – Beautiful Weather for Our First Day of Acclimatization

Karina reported to us that Sunday, the first day of mountain hiking with Jack and Scott went great. The weather looks glorious from the photos that she sent.

The twin summits of Elbrus rose against a perfectly blue sky.

The team began by going to the Cheget Ski Area. Chairlift rides took them up to a trail that ascended gradually toward Cheget Peak. These first views of Mount Elbrus are inspiring.

It is obvious now that Mimi is a part of this team, even if she is back home in the US, not in Russia. We saw signs with her name everywhere in St. Petersburg and Moscow and now we are seeing “Mimi” tee shirts high on the mountain trails of the Caucasus Range!

After hiking the team enjoyed cold drinks and barbeque at our favourite Cheget restaurant. A fine Caucasus tradition is “Sashlick”- barbequed lamb, it looks like the guys appetites were keen after a good days hike in the mountains.
