June 24, 2010 – Summit Day
At 3am today, Heiko, Sergio, Osvaldo and Sam left high camp to make a push for the summit. Terri wasn't feeling her best, so she decided to stay at high camp. Tim and I stayed at base camp to monitor their summit attempt.
Around 7am, I got a radio call from Osvaldo letting me know that Sam had reached 6,000m/19,685ft and she had decided that was going to be her high point, which is quite impressive considering that she has never been to high altitude before.
Heiko and Sergio kept going and around noon reached the summit of Sajama, the highest point in Bolivia. The weather was fantastic with clear skies and no wind. Good job guys!
After celebrating on the summit, they all came down fine. Everyone is here now at base camp and are very proud of their accomplishment.
