Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
May 3, 2010 – Back in Lobuche for the Night
This is Leila Silveira writing from Lobuche. Today was great, we all made it to Everest Base Camp and now we are back down at Lobuche where we were just a couple of days ago. But this time, having come down from higher altitude, it feels like a warm and friendly place!

The team leaving base camp
We all enjoyed base camp and we really admire the climbers’ patience and ability to stay put and wait for the perfect window to attempt the summit. Life at base camp is not easy, at night it is cold and during the day it varies from being very hot or very cold.
We decided to go further down to Lobuche instead of spending an extra night at Gorak Shep tonight, and it turned out to be a great decision. We met with Wally and his team and it was great to see LaQuishia and her mother again. LaQuishia is a student who won a trip to Everest Base Camp sponsored by Hanesbrands. Her mother has joined her on the trip. She is really an amazing woman, to support her daughter and embrace the challenge of coming to EBC without having had much time to train for it. She is running on pure determination and I know she will make it.
We arrived in Lobuche just in time for tea time and our usual snacks were ready and waiting for us. We all party a lot and LaQuishia quickly started getting into our joke mode and posed for some crazy pictures.
Well, now it is only downhill from here and I do know that the shopping list for Kathmandu and Namche is already growing on everyone’s mind.

EBC was great, but it is definitely time to get down to lower altitude.

He actually came really close to us!

Leila is happy to meet LaQuishia again.

Leila, Kerri, and Maya having fun.

LaQuishia joins in on the fun.
