Elbrus Expedition Dispatch
July 16, 2009 – An Orthopedist Approved Acclimatization Day
Richard reported to us today that the trip up the Cheget Ski lifts to access the hike up Mt Cheget was appreciated as he and Nicky were mindful of the inner workings of their knees.
He said the weather was surreal at times due the team being cocooned amidst layers of clouds as they ascended. Unseen off in the distance through the clouds the climbers heard far off avalanches rumbling. Mt. Elbrus has been teasing the team coming in and out of the clouds the past two days.
You can see from the photos that Karina sent that the team picked up a friend for today’s journey, a very cute dog that accompanied them all the way to the top. As all BAI climbers will remember the Cheget climbing day always ends with a ride back down the lifts and a sampling of local food at the outdoor restaurants at the bottom, and a visit to the local markets.
