Why climb with Berg Adventures

Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

April 8, 2009 – Bob Reaches the Summit of Kala Pattar!

This is Temba calling from Gorak Shep on Wednesday, April 8th. We are at 16,900 ft (5180 m) now. It is not that far to Everest Base Camp.

There is still a lot of snow on the ground from the recent storms, but basically we have very good weather and the views are still good.

After we arrived this afternoon, Kit and Bob decided to try to go with our Sherpas and try to climb to the top of Kala Pattar (elev, 18,300 ft, 5600 m). Edouard, Jim and Janet decided to say at the lodge in Gorak Shep to be sure they have plenty of energy for tomorrow trip up the glacier to Base Camp.

The views of Everest get really good as soon as you start walking toward the top of Kala Pattar. Kit decided part way up that she wanted to go back down so she turned around with one of the Sherpas. Bob continued all the way to the top.

Part way up Kala Pattar, you begin to see the top of Everest and the Khumbu Icefall.
