September 25, 2016 – The Weavers Trail
I am calling you from a beautiful mountain lake; we are at 14,000ft above sea level. We are doing quite a trek today; we have all been walking for 4 and 4 ½ hours from Huacahuasi, a beautiful traditional village where we spent 2 nights.
Our last lodge was at Huacahuasi and we were the only foreign guests in the village. Our lodge is run actually by our trekking staff.
Yesterday we had a great time in the village; we went to visit an old woman who was a weaver. Sometimes this part of the trek as we approach Machu Picchu is called the “Weaver Trail” because of the traditional weaving that is done in these small villages. It was fascinating visiting her and it turned out it was a party day in this particular town.
It was the celebration of the town’s inauguration 100’s of years ago. So the school was out, we spent great time with the kids. We hang out for a while to see the parade but wow did we have rain yesterday. It kind of put a damper in the parade.
Sue, Paula and Elaine went back down after we ran down to the lodge and had lunch and checked out the parade. We saw the locals a bit more, we took the afternoon off and later Paula came back and gave everyone a yoga class.
We are going down to the Sacred Valley now, we are going to descend quite a lot further today.
