Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 17, 2016 – At Berlin Camp – Tomorrow Is Our Big Day!
Well, here we are at Berlin Camp; Danny’s altimeter reads 19,300 and some feet, almost exactly the elevation of the summit of Kilimanjaro. We are getting ready to settle down, and go to bed for some rest before our summit attempt tomorrow. Couldn’t have better conditions. I am really encouraged about the weather, the strength of the team. We are staying at this A-frame refugio or shelter where Maria is cooking and melting our water for our hydration and the water that we will carry tomorrow for thermos bottles or Nalgene bottles. Maria will serve a nice early dinner and we will settle down soon for some rest. We will be waking up at 3am and we plan to be climbing by 5am.
We won’t start with crampons but we will be using them before long on this route tomorrow. It is a long ways to the summit. This team is up for, always got to have humility when you climb a mountain this big. We are climbing almost to 23,000ft tomorrow, 22,940 something I believe it is the actual elevation of Aconcagua.
We are a great team in terms of our compatibility, we’ve got the Bolivians here to support us, they love this mountain as well and I am really encouraged.
As we settle down, know that we are confident, really secure in our equipment and resources for our big summit attempt tomorrow. We will report to you as we climb towards the summit of the Americas and as we come down tomorrow. It is our big day.
