Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch

January 6, 2016 – Tough Weather but We Are Tougher!

Aconcagua weather forecast for the next 9 days

Aconcagua weather forecast for the next 9 days

Our team is now in Penitentes, a small village 182 km from Mendoza just a few kilometres from the border with Chile. Penitentes is also a ski resort during the winter and it is the base for expeditions to Aconcagua during the summer. At elevation of 8,500ft/2,600m, it is a perfect place to acclimatize before entering the park.

The weather has been difficult, cold and rainy and we haven’t entered the Aconcagua National Park yet! Time to monitor the weather forecast very closely. Hopefully it will improve for our long hike from Confluencia to Mulas in a couple of days.

Danny’s luggage has finally arrived in Mendoza after getting delayed in Houston. Matias , Mariela and Cosme, our Mendoza support team, are driving to Penitentes right now to deliver to him personally. Luckily he was prepared for any eventuality and had some hiking gear in his carry-on.
