Wally's Visit to Nepal Dispatch

June 7, 2015 – Wally Arrives in Kathmandu

Wally has arrived in Kathmandu. It was a nice flight over from Bangkok, with views of Everest and Lhotse from the Thai Airlines 777.

He was greeted at the airport by an always smiling Min. Min and his family had quite a lot of damage to their house. Charles Martin, Dennis Comfort and Becky Comfort have sent some funds for some of their Sherpa friends, and the money they sent for Min will help him in rebuilding his mothers home.

As always the Yak and Yeti was a great place to stay and meet some old friends.

Wally visited with David Breashears who has just returned from the United States where he was raising money for his work in Nepal. It was nice to see him in Nepal as he continues his important work.

Ang Temba and Yangzing arrived at the Yak and Yeti and they looked great. It has been a stressful six weeks, however. They are living fine in Kathmandu, with their two kids, who are back in college now. Back home in the Khumbu, their lodge in Pangboche has almost no damage and their house in Khude is also fine.

They discussed Nim Phuti's house which was one of the most damaged in all of Khunde. She is living in a tent with her youngest son now and the feeling is that the place will have to be torn down and rebuilt in a nearby spot on her lot in Khunde. The help that came from Canada for Nim Phuti was also very much appreciated.

Everyone is thinking fondly of all the friends who have been supporting them. They are looking forward to brighter times, when people begin to return to the Khumbu for trekking.
