Why climb with Berg Adventures

Alessio’s Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

September 28, 2014 – Berg Adventures Guides are REAL Guides!

In today’s edition of the comic book duos adventures, we start with a safety moment: DONT FALL OFF, this is a daily reminder not to get too close to the edge of the trail. In the second safety moment, always use three point contacts when you are walking on rocks above a waterfall.

Today we made the trip from Khumjumg to Pangbouche. These two are at a relatively level elevation, however, as we are now comic book heroes, we decided we need to walk down 500M to the bottom of the valley, cross a bridge, and then as we pretend to be balanced individuals, we thought we should walk all the way back up the 500M on the other side. The first 250M in elevation gained was over 250M of distance that means the slope was at a 45 degree angle. It was a bit of a tough day.

On the way to the bottom of the valley, we stopped for a break to look back at Khumjung and see how far we had come. In the picture below, you can see the trail that we walked on from the town.

Even though it was a bit of a tough day, our wonderful guides have been doing a great job of not letting us over do it. They have been insuring that we take appropriate breaks and do not go fast; this allows us to actually make it up the hills. Berg Adventures guides are REAL guides!

Once we made it to the top of the hill, we had a quick lunch break at Tangboche then proceeded back to the bottom of the creek to cross the river once again. (See bridge pic). We very happily arrived at our lodge in Tangboche for a long required shower and rest.

We are now at a higher elevation and the Avatar-like vegetation has almost given way to the "tundra". Tomorrow we will be staying at over 4000M and it will be all tundra type vegetation.

Till next time,

The Grizzled Mountain Man and his trusty sidekick the Sweaty Mess (Now that I showered, I am not as much of a sweaty mess), aka Bonnie
