Why climb with Berg Adventures

Alessio’s Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

September 25, 2014 – Lukla to Namche

Yesterday was a great day, woke after a restful night by the river in Padking. Walked up the river for a couple of hours, we were very impressed by the avatar-like scenery and the spectacular bridges that cross the river many times (only had a bit of fear on one). We were really surprised by the amount of humidity and waterfalls. The landscape is not anything we had imagined, it is much more spectacular.

After a great lunch in Jorsel, we ATTACKED the Namche Hill (for those at home it was much larger than most of our mountains). Thankfully we have wonderful guides that made us go very slowly, turns out that slow and steady is really the best way. We arrived in Namche in clear weather; it is a terraced village going down the valley of the mountain with all buildings made out of rock with colorful trim.

Today, we woke early for the sunrise on the side of Everest, our first view of the "Mountain". It looks huge but is still about 50KM from our current location. We were extremely lucky to have climbed the hill early for these views as the clouds rolled in about 10 minutes later. The lodge we are staying in has absolutely spoiled us (think real napkins and hot wash towel prior to the meal). After our great sunrise, we got to experience the Namche market place so that Dad could replace his fleece he left on the plane.

Tomorrow we will get off the main path to Everest Base Camp on our way to Thame, it should be more adventure.

Dad is quite proud of the fact that he has made the transition for a "Portly, unshaven old guy" to a "Grizzled Mountain Man".

Till Next Time!
