Sellers Family Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
October 23, 2013 – An Early Morning Flight in Perfect Weather and Nightime Along the River
Ang Temba called in to the Berg Adventures office today from the village of Phakding, which is located at 8,800 feet, along the rushing waters of the Dudh Kosi River.
With their early departure from the Yak and Yeti and perfect flying conditions Scot, Keely and Alyssa were standing in the chilly mountain air at Lukla by 7:30 this morning!
The first day’s walk took the Sellers and Temba past countless brightly painted Buddhist Mani walls, a sign that the Sherpa’s of this region keep their religion as a part of their daily lives.
Our lodge in Phakding is located outside the main town and across the river on a large swinging steel suspension bridge. It is always peaceful sleeping with the sounds of the river in the peaceful setting of our lodge.
Tomorrow Temba and the team will continue along the Dudh Kosi, enter Sagarmatha National Park and climb the infamous “Namche Hill” to reach Panorama Lodge, at 11,400 feet, our home base in the Khumbu. Stay tuned for their reports as they climb higher.
