Berg Adventures 2013 Everest Expedition Dispatch

April 22, 2013 – Enjoying Some R&R at Everest Base Camp

We awoke Monday morning, the 22nd to more snow here at Everest Base Camp and grey skies. Precipitation is (inaudible). We were on a the VA-Tech radio talking to other teams as the morning got under way and learned that up at Camp I they had one meter more new snow overnight, so those guys are staying put!

Here at Base Camp virtually no one started up to carry high up on the mountain because of the inclement weather. It’s pretty warm but we have continued snow. We learned that across Nepal there’s a great deal of participation, rain in the lower elevations and actually this is much needed for this season in Nepal, so it is not bad news at all.

And of course our three climbers, Daniel, Steve, and Todd (inaudible) these will be their rest days at Base Camp regardless. It’s working out quite well for our team.

Right now the guys are over in the communications tent and they’ve got Daniel’s laptop out and they’re watching a movie “Zero Dark Thirty” this afternoon. I popped in to see how they were doing and they looked really enthralled in the movie and having a pretty good time. Good rest day at Base Camp.

We’ll keep you posted about the weather and how we’re doing, but we’re holding tight here at Everest Base Camp and actually having a pretty good time as the guys rest and recuperate before the next stage of their climb higher on Everest.
