Everest Expedition Friends and Family Base Camp Trek Dispatch
April 11, 2013 – All of the Trekkers are Now Making Their Way Home
As you can see, we woke up to a fresh snowfall this morning. Two of the Sherpa’s A Rita and Tshering decided after they woke up about 3am to go ahead and do a carry all the way to Camp I at the top of the icefall. So we moved more equipment up onto the route that we’ll be moving ahead on.
Today turned out to be quite nice. We’re all over the place, all over the map sort to speak. As you know, Katie Ross stayed behind at Base Camp, said good-bye to us this morning. She’s in Pheriche 14,340ft/4,371m. We are really going to miss, Katie. She’s on her way home and we’re going to continue with the climb.
And of course we have other trekkers that we’ve also heard from. We got a call from Katie Branham today from Lukla. Our main trekking group has made it back to the airstrip, which is fantastic. They thought there was going to be a backlog and that they would have to wait an extra day to make it to Kathmandu which is not a bad process. We’ve got some time for their international flights. But I actually have it on pretty good word that they’re going to be on the first flight tomorrow at 6am. I expect the weather is going to be good and they’re going to be back to Kathmandu before they know it!
