Everest Expedition Friends and Family Base Camp Trek Dispatch
April 4, 2013 – We Are on the Khumbu Glacier and One Day from Base Camp
I think that the overall health and spirit of our trekking team and our climbing team is the highest that it has been yet on our journey. This is impressive because we are now at 16,800ft/5,120m above sea level.
We are at Gorak Shep, the last outpost before Everest Base Camp.
The team celebrates being high in the Himalaya and almost to our destination: Everest Base Camp.
When we left Pheriche yesterday, we were surrounded by beautiful peaks, including Kantega.
Our picnic yesterday was in a yak field just behind the lodges at Thukla, at 15,100ft/4,602m.

The views are spectacular as we climb along the moraine
Our yaks move with us each day, carrying our heavy duffels to the next lodge.
Nim Phuti is always just behind the yaks, keeping them in line.

In the early afternoon we finally arrived at Gorak Shep, a beautiful place to be - and not far to go now! We will be at Base Camp for lunch tomorrow.
