Everest Expedition Friends and Family Base Camp Trek Dispatch
March 31, 2013 – A Very Special Day at Tangboche
Tangboche Monastery, at 12,500 feet above sea level, with Everest and the sacred high peaks of the Khumbu towering above is always a special place to visit. It has never been more so than it was on Easter Sunday, 2013, when our climbing and trekking paused here to appreciate the natural, cultural and spiritual beauty that surrounded us. Daniel and Cassidy stayed behind the group at a particularly beautiful place and when they rejoined the team we learned that Daniel had proposed to Cassidy and that she accepted. The rest of our hike to Ang Temba and Yangzing’s lodge in Pangboche was joyous, even as we climbed higher and higher into the rarefied air of the Himalayas.
Tangboche is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
We walked to a secluded and spectacular location behind the monastery.
Daniel and Cassidy stayed behind.
The happy news has been on their faces since the moment Cassidy said yes.
We still had two hours on the trail to Pangboche after we learned of the engagement.
Daniel and Cassidy on the first of what will be many journeys together.
This gate is a short distance for Pangboche where we all celebrated.
Katie, extremely happy about having such a wonderful sister-in-law had the wine waiting for our party.
Phuri’s Sherpa cook staff did not learn of the engagement until the middle of the afternoon, but they somehow managed to make a delicious cake to celebrate the occasion.
From 13,100 feet in the Himalayas, Cassidy called to tell her Mom the good news. Her ring is beautiful!
