Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
October 19, 2012 – The Dispatch Our Group Did Not Want You to See
Life is not bad here at 14,300 feet above sea level. The image folks at home may have of arduous trekking on steep mountain trails, frigid temperatures and rough living in the high Himalaya would not actually be the full truth about the way we live in this Berg Adventures Everest Base Camp Trek.
Today while we were waiting to attend the High Altitude lecture next door at the Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic, and after our hot showers, we sat around the sunroom in our lodge. It was warm, relaxing, and the beauty outside our windows was amazing.
All of the Sherpa guides, Nimphuhti, our cooks and entire staff, as well as the entire trekking team (which include 11 members from Canada, United States, and England) enjoyed Lobouche 16,000ft above sea level, on the lateral moraine of the Khumbu glacier.
Those same spectacular blue skies that you see immerge in photos allow us to have clear views throughout our hike to the moraine of the glacier in Lobouche. This evening we all excitedly watched a spectacular sunrise on the side, snow-covered face of Lhotse, which is right across from the village of Lobouche. Currently, there is a small slither of a moon in the clear; very powerful, very beautiful.

Pheriche is set in an open windy valley at over 4300 meters. Our lodge is cozy however.

In the early morning light, Kantega, 6783 meters, is beautiful.

Touche Peak, 6387 meters, stands right outside our door.

Lobouche Peak, 6119 meters

Up the valley we can see Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world, 8201 meters, 26,906 feet.
