Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
February 1, 2012 – Photo Highlights for the Summit Attempt
Before we leave for our midday celebratory lunch at one of Mendoza finest vineyards, we like to share some dramatic photos from our summit attempt on Aconcagua two days ago.
Our weather reports had not been good: winds in excess of 60 kilometers on the upper mountain. Wally surveys the conditions above with concern.
Winston arriving at our high camp. Plaza Berlin, at 19,500ft/5,943m.
Paul was always pushing on – even though his knees are not the greatest, he never quits.
As Howard and the group climb above Berlin Camp on summit morning an ominous shadow of Aconcagua was cast behind us to the west. You could see the plume of snow being blown from the summit by high winds.
As we climbed higher the beauty around us was astounding.
We were soon bracing ourselves against the strong winds as we climbed.
Linda pushing on in the increasingly difficult conditions.
Paule and Osvi climbing higher
Osvi continues to climb despite the aggressive winds.
Even though we were turned back the beauty that was around us high in the atmosphere on this morning will stay with us forever.
