Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch

January 21, 2011 – Preparing at Berlin Camp for Tomorrow’s Summit Attempt

Hello, this is Osvaldo calling from Berlin Camp at 19,700ft/6,004m. Today we climbed for 2.5 hours from our camp at Nido de Condors to our high camp—the Berlin Camp. When we arrived it was snowing so we quickly set-up camp. Now the skies have begun to clear and Todd is resting in his tent. He was very strong again today.

Tomorrow will be a big day—our summit day. If all goes as planned and the weather cooperates as is forecasted, we will reach Aconcagua’s summit at 22,841ft/6,962m sometime tomorrow afternoon. We will spend this afternoon and evening preparing mentally and physically, being sure to rest, eat well and drink plenty of water. Our bedtime tonight will be very early because we will need to wake up and prepare for our summit attempt between 2:00 am and 3:00 am. I think it will be a great day for a summit!
