May 1, 2010 – Acclimatization Day in Pheriche
This is Temba calling from Pheriche where we are spending two nights. Today is our acclimatize day.
This moring we had breakfast and then went hiking for a couple of hours to Dingboche. The weather was great and we saw many beautiful mountains including Makalu, Island peak and the Lhotse Face.
After the hike, we came back to Pheriche where most people took a shower and had lunch. Around 3 we went to a lecture about altitude at the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA). Everybody enjoyed very much, there was a lot of very interesting information.
In Pheriche we also visited the monument that was built to recognize all those who have died climbing Mt. Everest. The list of names on the monument is quite sobering.
It continues to be a beautiful day here and everybody is doing very well with hiking and acclimatization. Tomorrow we have a big climbing day but I feel that everybody's ready for it.
