Jamie Clarke’s Expedition Hanesbrands Everest Dispatch

April 17, 2010 – A Sherpa "Rest Day"

With Jamie and Scott renewing their lungs and their bodies at Base Camp, our sherpas decided to take a ”day off” and not carry loads to Camp I and II. We were impressed to learn that their idea of a day off was to break and move rocks to improve the Hanesbrands Base Camp in the glacial moraine.

Meanwhile with his exhibit now open, David Breashears was back at work as he and his team climbed high on the flank of Pumori to photograph into the icefall from the same vantage points photographed by Norman Dyhrenfurth back in the 1950's.

In the afternoon David stopped by on his way back from today’s shoot.  He always seems to have some prints ready to pull from his pack to discuss.  This work is his passion and it is infectious.

Expedition Hanesbrands Base Camp is becoming a more comfortable and a more functional home by the day.  This will be a long season, but we have a great place to work from.
