Patagonia: Torres del Paine Expedition Dispatch
February 3, 2010 – Back to Chile: Entering Torres del Paine National Park
We were excited as we drove back from Argentina to Chile. The vertical rock towers of Torres del Paine were our goal. This is one of the premier areas for trekking in the world. The views are astounding.

As we got closer to the park the towers became visible from the ranch county we were driving across.

We entered the park by crossing a simple wooded and steel bridge.

The highest tower Cerro Paine Grande, is 3050 meters above sea level.

Our lodge inside the park is owned by a Croatian ranching family who has been on this land for three generations.

We saw this Patagonian fox wondering the grounds around our room.

On Wednesday morning we went on a hike to get a closer look at the towers.

The sky is always changing in Patagonia.

The towers are basalt plugs that are all that remain of old volcanoes.
