Pumori Climbing Expedition Dispatch
October 29, 2009 – Pumori Team Was Forced With a Big Decision
Todd, Jamie and Wally nearing Gorak Shep on the trip out of Pumori Base Camp, thoughts already turning toward next spring's trip to Everest.
Due to the dry season which caused objective hazards on Pumori, on October 29th the climbing team came to the decision to abort the expedition.
The team encountered falling rock as they were progressing from Camp I to Camp II. As the team moved up, the rock fall continued to the point they needed to assess the situation for the safety of the entire team and crew.
Everyone is safely off of the mountain and making their way back through the Khumbu Valley to Kathmandu.
Wally will be sending a detailed update of their experience and situation on Pumori once the team has arrived in Kathmandu. In addition, there will be more photos of the last few days coming soon!
