Pumori Climbing Expedition Dispatch

October 18, 2009 – Team Arrives at Pumori Base Camp

It’s Sunday Oct 18th and this is a very special day. An important mile stone has been reached for Hanesbrands Pumori Expedition with Berg Adventures: Jamie Clarke and his team have arrived at Pumori base camp.

After many months of training, planning, and dreaming, all across the U.S, Canada, and Nepal, the team has finally arrived at 17, 400 ft. I can see why Jamie chose this mountain as a precursor to Everest spring 2010. From Pumori Base Camp I’m looking up at the summit of Everest rising majestically above us. The golden sunlit evening is hitting the summit of Everest and it is a glorious and inspiring sight. In the other direction I’m looking up at the towering face of Pumori and it looks like it is going to be a challenging, beautiful, and worthy goal for Jamie and his team as they prepare for Everest Spring 2010.

Today is really important for us because the last time anyone reached the summit of Everest in the autumn season was 3 years ago to this day Oct 18th when Berg Adventures had 14 team members standing on the summit of Mount Everest. Two of the climbing Sherpa’s who stood on the summit that day from Berg Adventures were Pemba Dorjee and Ang Namgel. They are here again to climb with Jamie this fall. We found success in the past, and looking forward to success in the future. This team is really proud to be at Pumori base camp.

We are sending our best wishes to all our supporters back home. We will keep you posted as our progress moves forward on climbing Pumori.
