Pumori Climbing Expedition Dispatch

October 13, 2009 – Team Moves From Namche to Khunde and Khumjung

This is Leila Silveira reporting from Khumjung, located at 3790m/12,434ft. Today was supposed to be a short day but it turned out to be quite long. Before the team left Namche they all went downtown for some last minute emails and shopping. We left at about 10 am.

Even though we had poor weather, the film crew filmed Jamie with the climbing team every step of the way to the trail to Khunde, where they made their first stop at the Khunde Clinic.

Dr. Kami was waiting for them and was happy to explain how their entire operation worked.

By evening everyone showed up at our lodge in Khumjung, very hungry and tired. We had a quick tea break and dinner was served. The highlight of the dinner was an avocado salad that was fantastic!

Our liaison Officer Zula unfortunately had to return to Kathmandu due to some complications with his diabetic condition. A liaison officer is a person selected from the Nepalese government to follow the expedition and give us support. Zula came from the Ministry of Communications due to our film permit. His job was to work together with the film crew.

Everyone is doing well in terms of acclimatization. The usual headache and minor symptoms have affected some of the members but nothing to be worried about.
