July 31, 2009 – Our Trans-Desert Journey Continues
We woke early at Yurt Camp Friday. A romantic Vera and Charles walking from their Yurt to join us at breakfast.
Left: After arriving in Samarkand and taking lunch across from Registan Square we visited a silk carpet factory. A charming young lady named Zainab taught us about her craft.
Left: It was fascinating to watch her open a silk cocoon.
All the colors in these amazing carpets are from natural dyes.
One woman will work patiently on one carpet for many months.
After the tour Nancy Lee decides on a purchase.
Annette and Zainab work on the shipping details to get her carpets back to Australia.
