Title image - BAI takes you to: Island Peak

Brendsel's Island Peak and Lobuche Peak Expedition Dispatch

November 11, 2008 – Resting at the Highland Sherpa Resort

Report from the Berg Adventure office in Alberta: Each morning we receive a call from Ang Temba updating us about the daily adventures and accomplishments of Leland, Michael and their Sherpa team. With the 12 hour difference in time zones, Temba’s evening report from the Himalayas gets to us the in the morning of same day they have just experienced.

For Tuesdays report Temba call us from his comfortable lodge in the village of Pangboche. Trekkers and climbers from all past BAI Everest adventures always remember Temba and his wife Yangzing’s lodge with fondness. Especially nice are the memories of dining and visiting with other trekkers in the famous “Sky Room” of the lodge with commanding views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and the other great peaks of the Khumbu.

What a place to rest after a long, demanding and successful ascent to the top of Lobuche Peak!

Temba told us today, as he has each day of this trip, “the weather is amazing, really clear.” He also reported that on Leland and Michael’s long 17 hour summit day on Lobuche they had very little high winds; a real blessing when you are climbing to those altitudes in the Himalaya.

Main thing now, the guys are resting in well deserved comfort. Tomorrow Ang Temba and Michael plan to walk to Ama Dablam Base Camp. Leland may take the day to rest his neck muscles. He reports to Temba that he needs a good massage, as he frequently has at home when this problem arises.

In a couple days time the famous annual dance festival, Mani Rimdu will begin at Tangboche Monastery, a relatively short walk from Pangboche. We are thinking the guys might take the chance they have to make a visit to this unique and colorful Sherpa event.
