Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch

October 18, 2008 – A Long but Rewarding Day Visiting Everest Base Camp

Hello this is Danny calling from Lobuche on Friday the 18th. Today we got up nice and early; breakfast was of course excellent, but we were all eager to be on our way to Base Camp. We started off around 7:45 AM. It was much colder today. We were all glad that we got up Kala Patar yesterday. I would not want to be going up that big hill today!

Our walk was slow, but our anticipation to reach Base Camp kept us moving and we arrived pretty early. When we got there we felt a sense of jubilation. We had made it! We soaked it in for a while and also had a great snack, a packed lunch that the Sherpas had provided and some tea. What an experience!

Now all we had left was a three hour walk back to Gorak Shep and then a two hour walk on to Lobouche. After a brief stop for soup in Gorak Shep we kept going and we made it back here to Lobouche about 4:30 or so. We are all pretty exhausted, but we had a blast!
