Everest Base Camp Trek Dispatch
May 8, 2008 – We’ve made it to Namche!
Hi, everyone. Good news from Nepal. We've made it to Namche!
We had a great sleep last night in our lodge along the banks of Dhud Kosi River beside the village of Phakding. This morning we began trekking around 8:15, walking up the steep trail with gorgeous valley views all around.
Late this afternoon we walked into the Panaroma Lodge near the top of Namche where we were warmly greeted by Sherpa Jonbu and Lakpa Doma. Doc had not seen them for two years. Dennis had last seen them during our Berg Adventures Everest Expedition in 2003.
Of course Deke, Caroline, and Tracy were made to feel welcomed and very much at home, too.
Everyone has gone off to get showers in their rooms now. Dennis and I remembered that our friend Joel Check used to say that while trekking in the Khumbu, "showers are overrated.” That may be so, but we’ve decided to wash off the trail dust anyway.
