Aconcagua Expedition Dispatch
January 23, 2008 – Climbing Higher through the Wild West
Climbing higher and higher each day. This group has taken the opportunity to reach a little higher elevation, their acclimatization is going very well. As you may remember back on Monday when we first arrived at Puente, our group climbed 600 meters above our hotel. The following day we went up the high pass, through Chile and that afternoon the group climbed 600 meters again above the hotel. Yesterday we climbed all of the way to 11,000 feet at Confluencia camp, which is our first day as we approach Aconcagua. It is a two night camp for us.
Confluencia is a little bit like a wild west scene, there is dust around the camp, large tents, mules coming and going and our group was particularly glad to see the bright yellow Berg Adventures north face tents.
Everyone slept well for their first night at 11,000 feet, and now about 2:00 in the afternoon I am calling you from 3,800 meters high on the glacial moraine, below the south face of Aconcagua.
We did an acclimatization walk up here today. The group is really doing well; everyone is adapting to the slow and steady pace.... [lost transmission]
