Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
August 4, 2016 – Call from the Most Amazing Place, Kilimanjaro High Camp at 16,000ft above Sea Level
What a lot of people don’t realize is all the water to all the teams attempting Kilimanjaro are carried from our Karanga River camp where there is a good water supply, the Karanga River, up to the high camp.
We moved through Barafu, the normal crowded high camp on this route to our special use high camp. But in both cases all the water has to be carried from the river. Not only for the climbers but for the porters and staff as well.
Big logistical operation, but we are cozy right now. We got our water, we are in our warm sleeping bags in our tents and we are watching an amazing afternoon sky across Africa. We are confident we are going to have some good fortune in the coming hours when we get up early and attempt to climb to Uhuru Peak, Freedom Peak, the top of Kilimanjaro, the very rooftop of Africa. We will let you know how we do.
There are great photos, we haven’t been able to upload them yet but they are coming and they may have to come once we are off the mountain or down lower when we have better opportunity to upload photos.
But I am looking around at the faces of these characters from Vancouver, they are determined and I feel good about our chances tomorrow. We are going for regardless. Trying Kilimanjaro tomorrow.
