Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch
August 5, 2016 – Calling from the Summit of Kilimanjaro
7:10 am on August 5th, we are standing on Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro. What an amazing day! We began climbing from high camp at 1:10am this morning; we reached Stella Point at 5:40am and it was cold.
Pretty good day as far as cold day goes in general; but we had some issues on keeping our feet warm. This is a real tough crew. A lot of focus, I knew they would make it. But I guarantee there were times in the four and half hours of darkness as we climbed towards the crater rim, this team pushed. We got to Stella Point as the sun was coming up and we reached this famous sign at the top of Uhuru Peak for our photographs at 7:10am.
We’ve got a long ways to go down; most of the good photos are going to come over the next few days starting in the next 12 hours.
You can see right now the expressions on this team’s face: pride, humility, joy, a few tears, what a team! They made it to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
