Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

February 5, 2015 – Jambo from Mark!

Jambo from Kilimanjaro, this is the group from Hong Kong. It is Mark calling, with David and Darla, Rob and Vera, 500 metres on the way up, day 2 on the Berg Adventures International trip. We started yesterday from our hotel, it was an African bumpy ride to the Lemosho gate and we went to the trail head. Drom that point, we had a fantastic welcome from the team, it was singing and dancing, and we all joined in, the whole 40 of them, the greatest, which was fantastic.

Delicious lunch which I would say “tekoula” (lots of laughing), which means delicious food. Then a rain forest walk of 4 kilometres, which we all made it, easy, easy. We are at the Big Tree Camp, under the full moon which is fantastic.

Another scene welcoming on arrival, did some stretching after our hike. The camp was set up, very comfortable, fantastic popcorn, warm water and excellent dinner. Too much fantastic food. 8pm to bed, everybody was very tired, on the first day.

Today we left, after a fantastic breakfast, through the forest and to the moorland on the way to camp 2. We had lunch after 3 hours. We had a good, sunny, mild day. The things that we learn in Swahili this week are jambo (hello) and tekoula.

We are now on the top of the pitch, in half an hour we will see the mountain for the first time; so it is like Hahuna Matata, which is no worries in Australian and jambo from Kilimanjaro, you are welcome, kirabu sena. Bye Bye. See you tomorrow from the team from Honk Kong.
