Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

Tchau, tchau!

Audio of Roberto's call Listen to Roberto's call

Roberto Catallo, Hello everyone! We are here at the moment at about 4,600m, in the fourth camp at a place called "Lava Tower" because it supposedly has a tower made of volcanic lava. But don’t worry because Kilimanjaro has been dormant for over 350 years.

Up until today, it’s been beautiful. Everyone is doing well, feeling well, with no strong side effects from the altitude. I think everyone has just had a little headache, but it went away once we arrived at camp four because we acclimatized. At the moment, we're climbing up a little higher, taking advantage of the time. We'll hike further up and then we will return back to camp and rest for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the fifth day and I think we will pass the 5,000m mark.

Today, we got to see Kilimanjaro very well, we are at the base of the mountain, we look up and she's in front of us. At the moment, it is very cloudy and we can’t see it, but we know it’s there! Seriously, it is quite interesting to see the changes in vegetation as we climb higher. It changes from: rain forest, to cloud forest, then you hike a little and in moment’s time you are in an area of rock, sand, and anything else that does not grow in present memory.

In general, then, like I said, everything is very positive, everybody is well. We’ll see if I can send another dispatch tomorrow or Saturday, I don’t know. Either way, the plan is to reach the top on the 27th. To end, I’m sending everyone a kiss, a hug, and I hope that everyone is doing well. Bye bye!
