July 2, 2011 – Up to Kossovo Camp – The Summit in Sight
Hi this is Scott and Brennen checking in from Kossovo Camp. Today we trekked from Karanga Valley for a shorter walk to Kossovo Camp. We stopped at Barafu huts to check in and we had a Coca Cola there which was fun. We are now not far from the summit. Tomorrow, hopefully we will get to the top.
Julius, Samuel and Eric here are taking really good care of us. We are learning some Swahili. We are learning about the geology of the volcanoes, about the culture, and about the plants. All of it has been such a good experience.
It is beautiful. I think I can see the summit from here – at least the path up to it. We are doing great and can’t wait to share all of our pictures with you when we get home.

Leaving Karanga Camp on a gorgeous morning

We have climbed above tree line and now there are few plants – just rocks, snow and ice from here on up.
