February 22, 2011 – Closer Every Day – at Kosovo Camp Tonight
Greetings from Dave and Joanne Genyk. This morning we woke up at 6:50am and were given warm water to wash up with. All our gear was packed in the bags for the porters and the sun was shining. At 8:00am we sat down in the dinning tent for breakfast: toast, omelets, sausage, coffee and tea—it was delicious. We visited with our guides.
The camp was full of groups getting ready to leave for Barafu Camp. At 9:15am, we begin the long climb up the ridge. We stopped to look behind and ahead and there was a steady stream of porters, guides and climbers all heading for Barafu. Our guides Julius and Eric are awesome and encouraging us every step of the way. We arrive at Barafu camp at 1:00pm and were greeted with a hot lunch prepared in the dining tent for us. At 1:30 we left Barafu camp and made our way to Kossovo Camp at 4867m and arrive at 2:25pm with singing and dancing. Tonight we will have dinner and go to bed for a good rest. Tomorrow we go to the crater. Love to our family and friends. Goodnight.
Before Dave hung-up, he handed the phone to Eric who left a quick message:
"Hello, this is Eric from Kilimanjaro. I am really enjoying this climb with Dave and Joanne here."
