Why climb with Berg Adventures

Kilimanjaro Expedition Dispatch

February 21, 2011 – Over the Barranco Wall and on to Karanga Valley

From the Lava Tower, we began a long descent and right after we left camp we were climbing down rocks. Soon the terrain smoothed out, but all the while we were going down. Lava Tower was at 4600, but we go down to 4000m and have a snack. After our snack we start to climb the Barranco Wall, 150m almost straight up. With the expert help of our guides Julius and Eric, we safely scramble and make our way to the top in an hour and a half. Then we go down and up and down and up again. We are at camp Karanga Valley camp now at 4235m. We are greeted by our crew singing and dancing to welcome us. Other campers have to come over and see and take pictures. They join in the singing and dancing and take photos with our crew. And that is the end of our day.
