August 7, 2009 – The Big Day Up Barranco Wall
Hello, this is Rob calling you on our day five. Today we hiked down from the Lava Tower only to have to scramble up the exposed 1,000 foot Barranco Wall. The view of the Barranco valley with its cascading waterfalls and glacial fed streams was spectacular!
I finally snapped a shot of an iridescent blue sand bird perched with its long black tail feathers. We traversed three valleys to end up at Karanga Camp at 4,235m (13,900ft). We are sleeping lower than last night to prepare for our final two-day push for the summit.
The weather was perfect for hiking but we are all tired from a long tough day.
